Internet and E-mail:

Internet:
The term internet is derived from two words-interconnection and networks. Internet is a worldwide system of computer networks, that is, networks of networks, which allows the participates ( user )to share information. It consists of thousand of separately administered networks of various sizes and types. Each of the networks comprises tens of computers. Moreover, the total number of users of the internet is known to be in millions. This high level of connectivity encourages an unparallel degree of communication, resource sharing and information access. It is probably the most powerful and important technological advancement since the introduction of desktop computer.

Following are uses of internet:

a. Email:
It is a communication service through we can send digital message to one another. Through we can send texts, graphics, audio files, video files etc.

b. Social Network:
The social network service is a service to unite a group of people who share their and another activities. For social networking each user provides his/her profile, link to different persons in the network. This social networking service provides facilities to connect and chat online, share views, share picture and videos, share their status, and so on . Some of the popular social networking services are face book, Hi 5, Twitter etc.

c. Discussion Form:
With discussion forums user can discuss about matters register. People on the forum can post questions for the motivations of others. Discussion forums are widely used in academic and software development fields.

d. Online journals and magazines:
There are many sites on the internet , which consists of electronic version of many journals and magazines.

e. Online Job:
Through online job people can do work and get paid for that with the use of internet software. Companies can outsource that job to other parts of the world where manpower is cheaper. This will benefits the company as well teh individual involved in outsourcing job.

f. E- shopping:
The shopping companies provide we sites through which shopping can be done. In the shopping sites the available product. The total cost of the product is given to the user. The user pays the amount through credit cards or other electronic means and ordered items are delivered to the customer.

g. E-Banking, E-Transaction and E-payment:
 Through internet people can see their account information and account statement. Through secure web pages banks allows their customer to transfer amount to other account holders. Banks can to pay bills for telephone , electricity etc to other companies they recognize.

h. Entertainment:
Entertainment is another popular reason why many people prefer to surf the internet . Download games, online playing games, visiting chat rooms, watching video and movies are some of the most used by people on the internet of their entertainment.

i. Video Conferencing :
It is another use of internet which allows two or more people at different location can hear and see each other in the real time.Video conferencing offers schools, colleges student to have share views, ideas using their computer offers schools, colleges student to share views, ideas using their computer. It can also be for the treatment of patient from the remote doctors.

j. Internet Topology:
It is one of the cheapest and reliable service provided by the internet . It is system that allows the user to make telephone communication or voice communication through internet.


Electronic Mail ( E-mail ):
It is the most popular services of the internet. It is the process of sending and receiving message over the internet. Internet allows user to send a mail ( message ) to another internet user in any part of the world in a near-real-time manner . The message may not reach immediately in the destination but may take few seconds to several minutes because it must be passed from one network to another until reaches its destination.
Since email is widely used application in the internet, there are various e-mail accounts. Some common e-mail accounts are follows:

a. POP E-mail Account :
This type of e-mail address requires a client application installed in the user's computer. The user has to get the server from internet service provider (ISI) for free or by paying some amount . The user then gets user id  are password along with the POP maim server configuration required to setup the e-mail client. The popular e-mail clients are Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, K Mail, Opera-mail etc. The POP mail client connects to the email server and gets the e-mail in users' computer so that it can be seen later at my tile. To send e-mail server. The e-mail server then sends the mail to the destination address.

b. Web based E-mail Account:
The Web based email service provides a web page through which the user accesses the e-mail server . The web page accesses the e-mail server on the behalf of user and stores the mails in its databases.The user can access their mails by logging into the web page by providing the username and password into the system. Through the Web page the user can view, send, store and manage the e-mail. To get the web based e-mail server a user has to subscriber the server by paying some amount or free of cost depending on the service. Some of the free Web based services are Hotmail,
yahoo mail, etc. These e-mail service provide extra feature if we pay some amount.

c. E-mail account from your company:
If you work in medium -sized or a large company they would probably have their own e-mail address a few days after joining the company.

d. Web site e-mail account:
Do you have your own web site? Depending on hosting package, you can create email accounts on the web site for yourself or your staff. Most web hosting companies lat you access emails.
